IRON MAN 5/18/08
Iron Man.
Philiosophical
When I first heard that yet another comic book movie was being made, I was somewhat annoyed.
I figured after the Fantastic 4 Movies that if I subjected myself to the flying teenage-comedy antics of another Marvel Movie (Or MarMov…), I would collapse from an overload of dissatisfaction.
But, my doubts about Iron Man were assuaged when I discovered that unlike the normal “Accidental” hero… Iron Man was self made.
I had never read the Iron Man comics previously, but after the movie finished I ran to my local comic store to find a copy.
Within the comic, I found the concept of a self-made hero refreshing and new. It made me think about which is more impressive, to wake up with the ability to shoot string out of your wrists… Or to make yourself a potent suit of raw power through long trial and error after changing your personality entirely.
So from a philosophical standpoint, I think that Iron Man deserves an 8.5/10
Visual
From a visual stand point, the graphics were pretty cool. But furthermore, I thought that the truly interesting graphical concept was showing everything from a technical standpoint. Seeing the HUD and other gadgets that aren’t beyond our realm of thinking being used effectively was a very interesting style that I thought was well used.
So visually, I think Iron Man deserves a 5/5
Audio
Here Iron Man fell in with all of the other MarMov movies, using the standard “Excitement music” that makes certain audiophiles want to find a sharp object for our eardrums.
Opiate of the masses =/= good.
So for audio, I think Iron Man deserves a 2/5
Bottom Line
Iron Man should be the new standard for MarMov’s
I hope that the new Watchmen movie meets up to these standards.
15.5/20 = 77.5%
As good as a MarMov can be…
